We offer Volunteer Opportunities for Volunteers to work in Eye Camps and Non profit work by our affiliation with various NGOs:

1) Unite For Sight – USA ( www.uniteforsight.org)
Unite For Sight is a 501(3) C non profit which empowers communities world wide in the eradication of preventable blindness. We are a partner of Unite For Sight and organise rural outreach and eye screening programmes and free eye glasses and catract surgeries are provided to the deserving poor.

2) Vision Foundation
This is a non profit arm of Uma Eye Clinic Chennai India and has been very active in community outreach programmes. The Foundation has provided free eye care to more than 2 hundred thousand people through its initiatives /

Who can volunteer?
Anyone with a motivation to Volunteer are welcome.
Students
Public Health professionals.
Optometrists.
Ophthalmologists.

What is the minimum time period?
We would advise you to come here and stay with us for atleast a period of 2-4 weeks.

What are the volunteer activities?
Volunteers can participate in various activities and assist in
1) Village Eye Screening Camps
2) School Screening Camps
3) Industrial Workers Screening Camps
4) Camps in Old Age Homes and Orphanages

Volunteers help in organising the camps, distribution of glasses , vision screening, assisiting patients in surgery and taking care of post operative follow up of patients. In addition to these student volunteers assist and shadow eye doctors in clinics and can learn basic skills in Ophthalmology such as Refraction, Slit Lamp usage, Ophthalmoscopy, Observation of Phaco and lasik etc.

In addition to acquiring the above skills volunteers can also get an opportunity to perform Cataract Surgery on Goats Eyes.

If you cannot come here directely, you can participate in our activities by donating. Every small amount of money donated will help in providing eye care to the underserved population.
